Many people scrub their chompers twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. If you’re one of these people, good for you! That is the most important thing you can do for your smile in addition to flossing at least once a day. Now, if you want to have an even more successful brushing routine, our dentist, Dr. Brittany Greer, encourages you to leave the toothpaste on your chompers after you’re done brushing in the morning. This means you shouldn’t rinse your mouth with water.

Your dentist encourages this step because it helps further strengthen and nourish your tooth enamel. The fluoride in the toothpaste seeps into the enamel and strengthens it, giving it the ability to fight tooth decay and enamel erosion. And for the best results possible, it’s best to keep the toothpaste on the teeth for as long as you can. So, when you’re done brushing in the morning, just spit out the extra toothpaste and let the remaining paste sit on your chompers for at least 30 minutes. If you can’t do this, try to rinse with as little water as possible.
