At Cleveland Dental Associates in Cleveland, Texas, we want to see you taking good care of your smile this busy summer season. To help you do this, Dr. Brittany Greer and our team are happy to share some tips with you today so that your smile will continue to stay healthy and strong, no matter how much fun you are having. Let’s take a look!
First things first. You want to make sure you are keeping up with your daily oral hygiene routine which you have worked hard to establish. Of course, summertime is usually a time to kick back and relax to cope with the heat and the changes in routine, but make sure you aren’t slacking off on your healthy habits. Take the time to brush and floss daily, without fail. Be sure to keep up with your scheduled dental cleanings as well. As you already know, gum disease and cavities never take a holiday!
If you are like many folks, this is the season to travel. Even so, don’t take a vacation from your smile care. Whether you are flying to foreign destinations or backpacking in the wilderness with family or friends, bring your smile care essentials with you. Be sure to pack your oral hygiene products, including a toothbrush, floss, and toothpaste, preferably those that carry the American Dental Association Seal of Acceptance. It will only take a few minutes, tops, and your smile will thank you. If you are in an area with poor water quality or no water (camping), bring bottled water to brush and rinse your mouth.
Another fun summer favorite is engaging in outdoor recreational sports. If you are an athlete, or if you simply become more active in the summer, will these activities expose your smile to injury or accident? If so, consider wearing a mouth guard to protect your teeth and gums. A ball, knee, or elbow to the mouth can harm not only your teeth but your oral tissues as well, including tongue, cheeks, and jaw. A protective mouth guard which you can find in most sporting goods stores can keep your smile safe.
